Frequently Asked Questions

What is the benefit of going Greek at UF?
A close-knit brotherhood amidst the fourth largest student population in America. A devotion to scholarship that earns Greek’s the highest paying and most rewarding jobs nationwide. The development of powerful character that enhances our convictions and purpose in life. Check out our
Personal Experiences page for more insight.

How does rush work?
First, check out our Rush Page for specific info on this semester's Rush Week. For one week, students interested in joining fraternities are invited to check out the 27 fraternities UF has to offer. Students choose which fraternities to go to, when they go, and for how long they stay. Most fraternities (including Phi Sig) offer lunch, dinner, and night events – to which all UF students are welcome. At different times during the week, fraternities can extend bids of membership to any rushees. Check out IFC's Recruitment Site for more info.

What are academics like at Phi Sig?
For years we have held one of the top GPA’s on this campus: Spring 2007 it was 3.390 (5th highest fraternity GPA on campus), and in Fall 2006 it was 3.210. Comparing this to the All Men's GPA in both cases, Phi Sig men have a higher average GPA than non-fraternity men at UF. Also in both cases, Phi Sig men have a higher average GPA than the averagre all-fraternity GPA. It is our first priority to ensure that our brothers benefit academically by joining Phi Sigma Kappa. For more info, see the Greek GPA Reports on our Links page.

My parents have some concerns. What can I tell them?
First, click here to see what the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Affairs can tell parents about Greek Life. If they have any additional questions, comments, or concerns feel free to email our President. He will be more than willing to answer any questions you might have.

What are game days like at Phi Sig?
Before every game we BBQ and tailgate before heading over to The Swamp. Also, one of the benefits to going Greek at UF is block seating. Most fraternities, including Phi Sig, group all their members with season football tickets together at The Swamp. Although they change every game, our seats are usually pretty good (for the LSU game last year we were 9 rows up on the 50 yard line). Basketball season means at least 1 group of brothers camping out front of the O Dome for Rowdy Reptile seats to the 2-time National Championship Gator Men's Basketball Team.

What are the costs of being in Phi Sig?
Semesterly Social Dues are $645 required for all our members. To encourage longevity in our brotherhood, this amount decreases by $100 every year that you are a brother. For example, seniors only pay $345.

What about leadership opportunities – what can Phi Sig offer?
Phi Sig offers you as little or as much immersion into leadership roles as you want to take. Internally we have Chairmen and Officers who run Intramurals, Service Activities, Socials, Finances, Rituals, and Brotherhood Events to name a few. Externally we are very active on campus and will involve any of our members who are interested.

We have active roles in Student Government Senate and Cabinet, Florida Blue Key (UF’s most prestigious leadership organization), Florida Cicerones (UF’s ambassadors), Gator Growl (the largest student-run pep rally in the US), the Recreational Sports Board or Managers, the Reitz Union Board of Managers, the Omega Zeta Chapter of Order of Omega (an all-greek leadership honorary), Air Force ROTC, IFC Directorships, and IFC Executive Board to name a few.

What type of philanthropy does Phi Sig participate in?
We participate in Greek philanthropies on campus such as karaoke contests, flag football, dodge ball, and baseball tournaments. Phi Sig hosts an annual 4-on-4-beach volleyball tournament called “Phi Sig Spike” benefiting our national philanthropy the Special Olympics Foundation. We also participate in the American Cancer Society's annual Relay for Life each Spring.
