Third Degree...

Today a valued brother of Phi Sigma Kappa, Gregory Feldman, took his 3rd Degree Obligation (Alumni Status), and he's now on his way to graduate school in Washington, DC. Greg will attend George Washington University with plans to attain a masters degree in public administration. Greg put in a great four years with Phi Sig, capping it all off by achieving the Brother of the Year award at the end of his senior year!

    Convivium and Spike...

    As the Spring semester comes to an end, the Gentlemen of Phi Sigma Kappa celebrate our annual formal Convivium and host Phi Sig Spike. Convivium 2008 was hosted in Orlando, FL and featured a trip to Wet n Wild Theme Park and our formal banquet where we awarded the 2007-2008 Cardinal Principle Awards. Thank you to Brother Leo Guzman for organizing the event and congratulations to the following award winners:

  • This coming Sunday from 12:00pm-4:00pm we will host the 4th annual Phi Sig Spike: a 4-on-4 beach volleyball tournament held at the Southwest Recreation Center's Beach Volleyball Courts. The event is free to attend and will benefit Special Olympics International. Teams of 4 can sign up for $25/team. Please contact our Secretary to sign up for the event.

    After winning First Place in Greek Week last year, Phi Sigma Kappa is participating in Greek Week 2008 as a member of the Athena Team with Beta Theta Pi, Chi Phi, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Phi Beta Sigma, Sigma Gamma Rho, and Zeta Tau Alpha. Greek week focuses on the 4 pillars of the Greek Community at the University of Florida: Leadership, Scholarship, Service, and Community. This years events are:

    LEAD Phi Sig Conclave...

    Brothers will travel to Atlanta, GA January 19, 2008 for the annual regional conclave of all Phi Sig Chapters in the Southeast. LEAD Phi Sig is held each winter in order to expose a large number of brothers to leadership opportunities by exposing them to ideas of nearby chapters. Other chapters expected to attend include:

  • South Carolina
  • Clemson
  • Georgia Tech
  • Stetson
  • Tennessee
  • Valdosta State (colony)
  • Georgia Southern
  • Florida State
  • Florida International

    Spring Philanthropies...

    Phi Sigma Kappa will participate in 3 philanthropies Spring 2008: Relay for Life, Dance Marathon, and our annual Phi Sig Spike.

     

    UF Relay for Life will be held March 28th - March 29th in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. Participating brothers hope to raise $1500 ($100 each) benefiting the American Cancer Society. Check out our Relay for Life Facebook Group.

    Dance Marathon will be held April 5th – 6th, also in the Stephen C. O’Connell Center. Brothers have paired with the Ladies of Phi Mu Sorority to raise money supporting Children’s Miracle Network and Shands Children’s Hospitals. Check out our Dance Marathon Facebook Group.

     
     

    The 4th Annual Phi Sig Spike is a 4-vs-4 beach volleyball tournament held on April 20th at the Southwest Rec Volleyball Courts. Brothers hope to raise over $1000 to benefit our national beneficiary: the Special Olympics. Registration is $25/team, max of 2 teams per organizations. Points are awarded for raising money, buying t-shirts, penny voting, and tournament placement. Look for more info this sprng.

    New Brothers and Executive Board...

    Phi Sigma Kappa initiated our Fall Pledge Class (Alpha Zeta) marking four-hundred twenty brothers who have been initiated into the Delta Tetarton Chapter since our founding in 1953. Additionally, the new Spring 2008 Exec Board was elected and will be installed this Monday 11/12:

    Highest GPA in over 4 years...

    Phi Sig continues to strike for excellence in scholarship. The Office of Sorority and Fraternity Affairs released the Spring 2007 Grade Report earlier today showing Phi Sigma Kappa with a Fraternity GPA of 3.390 - the higest chapter GPA in over 4 years. This is the 4th highest Active Member Fraternity GPA and the 5th highest Overall GPA accross all 26 IFC Chapters. Additionally, the brothers of Phi Sigma Kappa have exceeded numerous GPA standards accross campus:

    All University Male GPA 3.170
    All Univ Average 3.250
    All Fraternity GPA 3.260
    All Greek GPA 3.360
    Phi Sigma Kappa Average GPA 3.390

    Soccer Champions...

    Phi Sig Athletics ended this season as Blue League Outdoor Soccer Champions for the third year in a row. The Division of Recreational Sports separates IFC fraternities into two leagues, Orange and Blue, of 10 fraternities each. Phi Sig won 6 of its 7 games allowing only 6 goals the entire season. Check out the Top Ten Standings or the Final Bracket released late last week. Congratulations brothers!

    Phi Sig Spike...

    This Sunday the Gentlemen of Phi Sigma Kappa hosted the 3rd annual Phi Sig Spike: a 4-on-4 beach volleyball tournament. The event, benefiting Special Olympics International, was the final IFC Philanthropy of the 06-07 year. Chi Omega won the tournament beating Pi Beta Phi in a 2-game streak. The overall winner was Chi Omega with Phi Mu coming in second. Congratulations to the winners and thank you to all the teams who participated and especially to our Spike Chair Justin Collins for organizing the event.     Convivium 2007...

     

    Convivium 2007 was held in Panama City Beach, FL this past weekend April 13th-15th. Saturday night's banquet was ushered in by the traditional recitation of the Founding Benediction by our newest member: Brother Carlos Duany. We aired our annual slideshow, presented superlative awards, congratulated the Fall 2006 and Spring 2007 Executive Board members, and announced our annual achievement awards:

  • Brother of the Year: PJ Broderick
  • Brotherhood Award: Justin Collins
  • Scholarship Award: Dan Pepper
  • Character Award: Jonathan Neff

  • Congratulations to all the winners and those brothers nominated for these prestigious awards. Most of all, thank you to Convivium Chair Matt Van Osterom for making Convivium 2007 a success.

    Phi Sigma Kappa is participating in Greek Week 2007 as a member of the Poseidon Team with Beta Theta Pi, Phi Mu, Pi Delta Psi, Tau Kappa Epsilon, Theta Nu Xi, and Zeta Tau Alpha. Phi Sig won First Place in Greek Week in 2000, 2001, and 2003; this is the first time Greek week has returned since 2003.
